DAY 1- En Route
Depart New York for flight to Cairo.
Arrive in Cairo and transfer to hotel. Remainder of day at leisure.
The day begins with a visit to the Egyptian Museum with objects covering 4,000 years of ancient Egyptian civilization, including the treasures of Tutankhamen and the fascinating Mummy Room. Continue to Giza to see the pyramids; enter one of the Great Pyramids. Enjoy a camel ride before continuing to the Solar Boat Museum to see the oldest known ship in the world. Stand in awe at the Sphinx which guards the Giza plateau.
DAY 4-Nile Cruise/Cairo/Abu Simbel/Aswan
Early morning flight from Cairo to Abu Simbel, one of the most desolate spots on earth where Ramses II built his monumental temple. After a tour of this extraordinary site, a short flight takes you to Aswan. Upon arrival, transfer to the Sonesta Sun Goddess or Nile Goddess for a Nile cruise. Enjoy a sailing trip on a typical Egyptian “felucca” (sailboat) which glides along the Nile, passing Elephantine Island, Lord Kitchener’s Botanical Garden and the dramatic Aga Khan Mausoleum. The ship docks in Aswan tonight.
DAY 5-Kom Ombo/Edfu
Visit the Aswan High Dam and the granite quarries where the stone for the ancient monuments and modern dam of Aswan were cut. View the gigantic unfinished Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut. Continue by motor boat to the beautiful island of Philae to see the exquisite sandstone Temple of Isis. Sail to Kom Ombo, a hill town overlooking the banks of the Nile. Visit the unique Greco-Roman Temple of Kom Ombo. Arrive in Edfu for the night.
In Edfu, travel by horse-drawn carriage to the Temple of Horus, the best preserved of all large Egyptian temples. Enjoy a relaxing sail along the Nile, passing quaint villages and towns before arriving in Luxor.
Visit the Colossi of Memnon and the Valley of the Queens; see the lovely terraced Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Then on to the imposing Valley of the Kings which contains the secretive tombs of the New Kingdom Pharaohs. Tour the vast Karnak Temple Complex built by generations of Pharaohs over a 2,000 year period. Continue to the Avenue of the Sphinxes and the Temple of Luxor with is grand colonnades.
Transfer to the airport for a short flight to the beautiful resort city of Sharm-el-Sheikh on the Red Sea.
DAY 9, 10, 11 Sharm-el-Sheikh
Enjoy three days at leisure in the most amazing deep sea diving and water sports paradise in the world. The crystal clear blue tropical waters sustain an overwhelming variety of marine flora and fauna, with more than 1,000 species of fish feeding among the coral. Fill your days with water skiing, sailing, surfing, tennis, fishing and snorkeling with all equipment available for rental from the diving center.
DAY 12 Sharm-el-Sheikh/Cairo
Morning flight returns to Cairo. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Tour the 12th century Citadel of Saladin and the Mosque of Mohammed Ali with its lovely minarets and cupolas. Continue to Old Cairo to visit the beautiful Coptic Church and the restored century-old Ben Ezra Synagogue, the oldest in Egypt. Drive to the bustling Khan el-Khalili Bazaar where shopping is an exotic experience. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure and a Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids tonight.
DAY 14 En route
Transfer to the airport for the departure flight.
