Irian Jaya – Baliem Valley Adventure Tour
Featuring: Indonesia’s most primitive island, Irian Jaya is found on the western portion of the island of New Guinea.
This is a land of coastal swamps, Neolithic tribes, river valleys and glacial peaks. Hidden in the highland valleys, ancient cultures were discovered here in the earlier part of the 20th century.
The Baliem valley is home to the ferocious- looking yet friendly Dani tribesmen. These men are clad only in body paint, feather headdresses and the “koteka” or penis gourd. There are other unique isolated tribes in Irian Jaya, such as the Yali or Asmat. This distant land is one of the world’s last frontiers and thus a major attraction for adventure seekers.
