Thailand Elephant Safaris

Featuring: An elephant safari is one of the more memorable experiences one can have in Thailand. Following are two options for this adventure; the second is more arduous than the first.

Itinerary Highlights:

Chaing Mai Elephant Safari/Tour (from Bangkok)

Day 1 Bangkok – Chiang Mai (daily departure)
Pick up at your hotel, and transfer to the railway station for taking the from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Thailand’s countryside. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel. In the evening, enjoy traditional Khantoke Dinner with Northern-style cuisine and hill tribe music & dances.

Day 2 Chiang Mai
After breakfast, visit one of the most sacred temple of the North – Wat Prathat Doi – built on a hilltop in Northern-Thai style and containing holy relics of Lord Buddha. Enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city. In the afternoon visit the famous Handicraft Village, where you can observe local skills in silk weaving, wood carving, silver and lacquer ware, and the making of colorful paper umbrellas.

Day 3 Chiang Mai – Elephant Safari
After breakfast, travel to the Elephant Camp in the jungle to see how the elephants help in hauling logs. Experience exciting Elephant Rides into the jungle for 1 1/2 hour and continue with fascinating Bamboo Rafting to see beautiful Maetaeng River. Also visit waterfall and ethnic hill tribes. Return to Chiang Mai. Overnight.

Day 4 Chiang Mai Departure
After breakfast, enjoy leisure time for shopping. Transfer from hotel to the airport or train station for taking an air-conditioned sleeper train to Bangkok (arrive next morning).

Adventure Trekking/Elephant Safari (from Chiang Mai)

Exciting white water rafting, enjoyable elephant riding and trekking through the tropical rain forest in the mountains of northern Thailand will be something to remember for years. Visitors will meet tribal peoples with their own unique society and aesthetic culture along the trip.

Day 1 Chiang Mai
Start in Chiang Mai in the morning from your hotel by pickup truck and head towards the park to see a 67 meter high waterfall. Then drive for one and a half hours and stop on the way at a local vegetable market. Lunch is served at the waterfall. After lunch, the drive continues for another 2 hours to the starting point of the trek. Hike up and down the hills for about 3 1/2 hours to a Lisu hill tribe village and stay overnight here.

Day 2 Elephant Safari
Leave after breakfast and walk about 4 1/2 half hours to the elephant camp, where you will have lunch before riding for 2 hours on elephants to the next Karen hill tribe village where you spend the night.

Day 3 Elephant Safari
Leave after breakfast and spend about 2 1/2 hours rafting to a Lahu village, where you will visit local families and have lunch. Afterwards continue rafting to the next village. From here you have the option of driving 2 hours back to Chiang Mai or continuing the trek by walking 3 1/2 hours to a Lahu village for the third night stay.

Day 4 Chiang Mai
Walk another 1 1/2 hours, stopping at an Akha hill tribe village on the way. Then drive back to Chiang Mai.
