When I first starting taking liveaboard dive trips, I realized the great potential they offered with access to some of the most remote dive destinations in the world. The more remote the better. Eventually I started to want to see more unexplored territory. To do this I chartered a liveaboard and together with my best dive buddies we ventured to the rarely seen Hermit Islands of Nuigini. It was a resounding success. Soon, everyone was calling me up asking; "So Jim, where are we off to next?" and now here we are 15 years later with a dive travel business still discovering that nothing beats a group trip with all your own friends. In this issue of Feature Dive Destination I want to inform you about some of the possibilities in group travel. One of the most exciting group destinations is Wakatobi, which in 2005 added the Pelagian. Susan led a group to Wakatobi in October reaffirming its unparalled reputation of amazing viz, pristine reef and countless species. Fiji offers great value and convenient departures from the West Coast. Susan will be leading a trip to Puerto Galera, Philippines—check out her article on its exceptional value and diving. And if you are thinking ahead, there is no more exotic itinerary than our Borneo and PNG Highlands tour. We also have an excerpt from the Miami Ski Club's group adventure in India, where they traveled on the most luxurious train in the world; the Palace on Wheels.

She and Tom then continued to the Lembeh Straits and Raja Ampat in Irian Jaya. This is her fascinating story of her remarkable marine encounters. Read article

Puerto Galera is located south of Manila on Mindoro Island. I traveled out by myself in November of 2004 and was totally taken with the quality of diving and the outstanding value Atlantis Hotels offers. I have 15 rooms on hold for this trip over New Years of 2006-2007 in 3 different room categories. It is often very difficult to find such a value over the New Year's Holiday, but this package is clearly an exception. I think after you look it over, you will agree. This resort books up fast, so if you can let me know if you can join us on this trip.Read article
