The Chan Chich Lodge, with its nine miles of perfectly groomed trails, offers the visitor one of the most civilized ways to view the rain forest and its fascinating creatures. Replete with flocks of parrots, toucans and macaws, Chan Chich is a bird lover’s dream. Visitors awake every morning to the primal scream of howler monkeys and, when venturing on the trails, may spot jaguars, spider monkeys, tapir and other jungle animals.
Built on an unexcavated Mayan ruin, the Chan Chich Lodge is located in a private nature reserve of over 250,000 acres. The 12 thatched-roof cabanas surround two central buildings that contain the reception desk, restaurant, bar, gift shop, and library.
Each cabana is fully screened and has two queen-size beds, ceiling fan, private bath with hot and cold water, 24 hour electricity and a wrap-around veranda complete with hammocks. The cabana is beautifully finished inside Whether walking the trails, climbing the ruins, exploring the jungle roads on horseback or canoing Laguna Verde, visitors are surrounded by the rain forest with its towering trees and abundant wildlife.
Chan Chich is 130 miles north of Belize City, a 3 1/2 hour drive on all weather roads or, more commonly, a 30 minute charter flight out of Belize City.
