Borneo Dive Resorts
The islands off the coast of Sabah; Mabul and Sipidan are world premier dive sites. Sipadan, Malaysia’s only oceanic island rises about 2100 feet from the ocean floor with a diverse marine life which includes; turtles, resident schools of jacks and barracudas.
A precipitous reef wall just off the island plunges down 2000 feet. Also off the coast of the Sabah are Pulau Lankayan, Pulau Mabul and Pulau Kapalai which are famous for their muck diving.
The southern state in Borneo – Sarawak also has some dive sites. Reef diving is found at Pulau Talang Talang as well as a protected turtle sanctuary. A World War II ship wreck Katori Maru, a Japanese troop carrier sunk by British aircraft attracts a number of large fish in particular, reef sharks.
Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort
Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort sits on the pristine white sands of Ligitan Reef. The resort offers great food, and elegant wooden chalets built on stilts over the reef with huge private balconies and attached bathrooms. Diving around Kapalai is exceedingly easy and shallow but quiet spectacular: the sandy bottom and the spare coral heads host an amazing array of small, often yet-to-be-classified species. The resort offers three dives a day and day trips to Sipadan are also available.
