Borneo: Rainforest Lodges
Sabah and Sarawak offer some of the most unique wildlife on the planet. Borneo is one of only two places on earth where Orang Utan are found. Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation centre is a tropical lowland rain forest orangutan sanctuary.
The Kinabatangan River is Sabah’s longest river. Proboscis monkeys which only live in Borneo, can be seen along its banks, along with 10 other species of monkeys. Other animals include; clouded leopard, Asian elephant, crocodiles, civet cats, otters, and all eight species of horn bills found in Borneo, and the oriental darter among other birds species.
Sepilok Nature Resort
Situated in Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, home of the world’s last wild Orangutans, the resort offers full amenities. All have attached bathrooms with hot and cold water, shower and bathtub, ceiling fan and air-conditioning. Meals are served in the central building under coved terraces, and it is not uncommon at all to wake up in the morning with an Orangutan or a few pig-tail Macaques sitting on the veranda.
Sukau Rainforest Resort
Built in traditional “Longhouse” style, the lodge features a 1500 foot covered rainforest boardwalk. It includes two elephant passes and is built along the elephant migration route. Satellite phone and Internet connection is available. All rooms are twin bedded with ceiling fan, mosquito netting, dressing table. The attached bathroom has hot water and wall to wall ceramic tiles.
