Costa Rica: Quepos Resorts & Activities

Quepos – Manuel Antonio

Features: Quepos, located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is a famous sport fishing center. 7 kilometers beyond Quepos are the perfect beaches of Manual Antonio National Park, one of the most popular in Costa Rica.

Three half moon beaches touch rain forests against a dramatic background of rugged cliffs. Manuel Antonio beach is one of the few places in Costa Rica where unspoiled forest grows right to the beach. There are several trails through the forest offering sightings of white-faced monkeys, spider monkeys, sloths and birds of many colors. Visitors can relax on an elegant beach among the orchids and watch the parrots fly over as the monkeys hop from tree to tree.

Quespos is 31/2 hours by road from San José or 20 minutes by air. Flights are approximately $35 each way.

Activities

White water rafting

Day trips can be arranged to raft the Naranjo as well as the Pecaure rivers from Quepos.

Horseback Riding

This area offers some exquisite trails and beaches for horseback riding that can arranged through your hotel.

Fishing

The Quepos area offers world class sport fishing, including sailfish, marlin, tuna, and dorado. Excursions can be arranged through Uncommon Adventures.

A short distance from Manuel Antonio National Park is the recently opened El Parador known for its private and serene ambience, providing European luxury in a tropical setting. The hotel is situated on top of Punta Quepos and has a 360 degree panoramic view of the Pacific ocean. The five star El Parador has hundreds of animals roaming wild on the hotel grounds, including Two- and Three-Toed Sloths, Squirrel Monkeys, White Throated Capuchin Monkeys, Banded Anteaters, White Nosed Coatis, Kinkajous, Mapaches, Agoutis, Pacas, Long-Haired Prehensile-Tailed Porcupines, Jaguarundi and hundreds of types of birds, butterflies and many plant species. The hotel has standard and deluxe rooms as well as suites. Approximate cost: $150 per night.

Hotel California

Set among the tropical forest with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Hotel California offers excellent accommodations at a reasonable price. Providing easy access to Manuel Antonio National Park, the hotel has 22 spacious rooms fully equipped with kitchenette and refrigerator. A swimming pool, open-air restaurant, and roof terrace make the Hotel California a good value at $60 per night.
