Micronesia: Truk Resorts and Liveaboards
Features: Chuuk, the world’s best shipwreck diving destination, is a vast, shallow, lagoon with a sunken fleet of over 60 ships and 250 planes.
The shipwrecks of Truk Lagoon are covered with soft corals of all colors creating the most dramatic artificial reef diving on the planet. Loads of tropical fish abound in these artificial reefs, and the night diving is exceptional. There is also wonderful reef and wall diving. The tall volcanic islands in the central lagoon rise into the blue skies, and the outer barrier reef has secluded sand-spits with coconut palms. Kayaking, windsurfing, or sailing in the lagoon is a true pleasure. The islands also host rare and migratory birds and beautiful wild orchids. Japanese lighthouses, situated high atop the lagoon’s overlooks, can be reached by hiking or driving. Old runways, command centers, gun emplacements, cave networks, hospitals and libraries can be found with the help of a knowledgeable guide.
